Set for release later this year, Polyphony Digital’s long awaited Gran Turismo aims to exceed expectations, with a special 16-player online mode as well as mechanical / exterior / interior damage. Prius with Stuck Gas Pedal Glides Safely to a Stop

A California Highway Patrol officer helped James Sikes slow his Toyota Prius after it accelerated out of control, due to a stuck gas pedal. Fortunately, “after the car decelerated to about 50 mph, Sikes turned off the engine and coasted to a halt.” Video after the break. In a statement, Toyota said it has dispatched a field technical specialist to San Diego to investigate the incident. [via Google ]

Here’s something you don’t see everyday: an actual Superman Ring, though no kryptonite or superpowers are included. Released to the public by DC Comics in 1940, it’s basically “a silver metal ring with a brass Superman in the center, surrounded by the brass inscription ‘Supermen of America Member’ on a red painted background.” To top it off, bidding has already reached $4,000-plus on eBay. Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet Survives Bomb Test

This test “on a Boeing 747 suggests that a US Christmas Day flight would have landed safely even if a bomb on board was detonated successfully.” The jumbo jet only suffered an outward dent and the loss of a few rivets. The flight controls and fuel tanks appeared safe post-blast to Captain J Joseph, an air accident investigator, and John Wyatt, an international terrorism and explosives adviser to the United Nations.
