Russia’s federal space agency announces a plan to stop and divert an earth-bound asteroid, which is “estimated to pass within about 30,000 km of the Earth in 2029.” One idea entails building a large ship designed specifically for bumping the asteroid off course. Other schemes that have been put forth in the past for diverting asteroids from collision courses include diverting them with “solar sails” that use the wind of particles ejected from the Sun. Inventor Le Trung from Ontario, Canada wasn’t alone this Christmas, as he spent it with his secret girlfriend, a robot named Aiko. Not just any robot, this fembot can speak two languages and 13,000 sentences between them. Continue reading to see an early prototype from 2007.
