Similar to Namco’s neGcon for the original PlayStation, the DualShock Vortex features an “unusual design in that the left and right halves of the controller [are] connected by a swivel joint and thus the halves can be twisted relative to each other.” Click here for first picture in gallery. You twist the controller, the dude on the screen twists the throttle, things like that. But it seems like it would have pretty limited uses, and would probably get on my nerves quickly. The BigDog, built by Boston Dynamics, has set a new world autonomous distance record. At 2.5-miles per hour, it traveled 12.8-miles “autonomously avoiding obstacles and dealing with varied terrain until its fuel ran out.” Continue reading for the BigDog spoof, which is an oldie but goodie. This is pretty impressive, but not good enough for DARPA, who wants a legged robot with a range of 20 miles and a 400 pound payload for its new Legged Squad Support System program. [via BotJunkie ]
