Built by Logicdustbin of the CGCC forums, the iDream started out as an iMac that was gutted and then stuffed with SEGA Dreamcast hardware. In addition to cramming the Dreamcast inside, this modder also swapped out the original CRT monitor for a much lighter LCD panel. Continue reading for more pictures and a video. The Gemballa Mirage GT Carbon Edition builds upon its predecessor and “boosts power from 612 to 670 HP, taking the top speed up to 208 MPH and the 0-60 time down from 3.5 to 3.2 seconds.” Click here for first picture in gallery. Few other specs of the car are currently known, but we’d expect a significant decrease in weight thanks to all the carbon. Or at least we would if we were going to open our wallets for one. For just $250 on eBay , you could pick up a big chunk of Aerogel , also known as the world’s lightest solid. Put simply, it’s “a low-density solid-state material derived from gel in which the liquid component of the gel has been replaced with gas.” Auction page . Video after the break. Aerogels are produced by extracting the liquid component of a gel through supercritical drying. This allows the liquid to be slowly drawn off without causing the solid matrix in the gel to collapse from capillary action, as would happen with conventional evaporation. [via eBay ]

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the escalator you see above, located at the Kawasaki More’s department store in Japan, is the world’s shortest, measuring just 834mm tall. Video after the break. It was in 1989 and will still retain the record if someone has not built a small and useless automatic staircase in the two decades. [via Newlaunches ]

According to researchers, development of this jet-mounted laser turret is nearing completion. In the clip, you’ll see that “the plane strapped with a pilot-controlled laser which is able to intercept missiles significantly earlier than other existing anti-missile tech.” Video after the break. The project has plans to continue testing throughout this year, but will also need to be approved by the Obama administration if it is to come to fruition. [via Engadget ]
